One of the most wonderful things a woman will go through in her life is pregnancy. It’s nothing short of a miracle that you are able to carry human life in your womb. So it’s but natural that you take care of your body when you’re pregnant. One of the things you should think about during your pregnancy is your posture. Here’s how you can keep a healthy posture during those months:

While sitting, avoid slouching and make sure the length of your thighs is supported by the chair. Your knees should be at the same level as your hips. Try not to cross your legs, as this inhibits circulation.

Lying on your side takes stress off your lower back without decreasing blood flow to your placenta and baby. When doing so, put a pillow between your legs to support the weight of your top leg and lessen strain on your lower back. Also place another pillow behind you for adequate back support.

You can stress over looking for the best weight loss pill after you give birth. Right now, it’s all about staying positive and enjoying every blissful moment of your pregnancy. Your baby will thank you for it.

It’s a hodgepodge of medical supplies that we use to treat cuts, wound, burns and other injuries as well as pills for fever, aches and emergency medicines. These handy provisions help us in responding quickly to our family’s medical needs and even emergencies.

The contents of a first-aid kit vary depending on the needs of each member of the family. Here is a checklist of suggested first-aid kit items recommended by the Red Cross that we can start with:

2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)

25 adhesive bandages (assorted sizes)

1 adhesive cloth tape (10 yards x 1 inch)

5 antibiotic ointment packets (approximately 1 gram)

5 antiseptic wipe packets

2 packets of aspirin (81 mg each)

1 blanket (space blanket)

1 breathing barrier (with one-way valve)

1 instant cold compress

2 pair of nonlatex gloves (size: large)

2 hydrocortisone ointment packets (approximately 1 gram each)

Scissors

1 roller bandage (3 inches wide)

1 roller bandage (4 inches wide)

5 sterile gauze pads (3 x 3 inches)

5 sterile gauze pads (4 x 4 inches)

Oral thermometer (non-mercury/nonglass)

2 triangular bandages

Tweezers

First aid instruction booklet

You may add other items in your kit such as flashlights, allergy pills etc., to address your specific needs. To make sure that you are adequately equipped to treat injuries, check the contents of your first-aid kit regularly and replace expired medicines with new ones.

These kits are household essentials that we shouldn’t neglect. After all they are our first response to our medical needs.

Getting into the green trend with a vegan or vegetarian diet can be difficult especially if you are used to having meat present in all your meals. But there’s nothing impossible for a determined person. Just take it nice and slow. Don’t go for drastic changes in your menu lest you suffer from meat withdrawal.

Here are some things that you can do during your first two weeks.

Ease out one or two types of meat product i.e. beef, pork, chicken and while you’re at it, you may also cut-down on the serving size of your meat dish.

Alternate your pure vegan diet days and cheat days when you may have at least one meat dish.

Explore as much as you want. There are a lot of books and internet sources that provide tasty vegetarian dishes. You can plan your daily or weekly menu around your favorite veggie dishes.

Image: hinnamsaisuy / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Going vegetarian does not stop with your diet. You can turn it into a lifestyle by being more selective and conscious about your food and health habit. Start with yourself and who knows you might lead your family into having a healthier and fuller life.

It’s only too tempting to leave our kids seated in front of the TV with Spongebob Squarepants keeping them busy for hours as we moms go about our daily chores. Little do we know that we are doing more harm than good. Sure, we’re able to finish our housework while our kids are preoccupied, but excessive TV viewing just sends their emotional and physical health down a spiral. What are the negative effects of watching too much TV on kids?

Poor social skills. Because kids who are TV addicts feel more comfortable seated in front of the boob tube, they hardly go out and play with their friends anymore. This leads them towards a form of social withdrawal, choosing TV time over play.

Failing grades. Because all they think about are episodes of Glee, kids who spend too much time watching TV tend to fall short in the academics department. They are left with very little time to study, and their grades pay the price for it.

Detachment from family. A child who spends more TV time than family time will eventually feel a certain disconnection from the rest of the family, since he barely has time to join them in other activities.

At most you can let your kids watch TV for up to two hours each day. Anything more than that is simply detrimental to their well being. If you feel that it’s time to replace that remote control with a barcode scanner so your kid can play cashier instead of watch TV, don’t lose hope. With a little discipline, you can get your kid to see how fun other activities can be.

Moms and kids on the go often find themselves at the mercy of public toilets and the various disease-causing germs found in them. Good thing there are various sanitizers that you can bring along with you for that short trip to the supermarket or a long drive to your favorite rest house. Here are some items that you can put in your travel sanitizer kit.

Tissue, toilet paper or paper towels. Dry pull-ups that you can use to mop-up wet or moist surfaces.

Wet wipes that you can use in lieu of water or bidets.

Antibacterial Hand Sanitizers to clean your hands after using the toilet or after handling soiled items.

Toilet seat sanitizer that you can spray on the toilet seat before using it.

Toilet seat cover to line the toilet seat before sitting on it.

Whether you are traveling with kids or teens, a handy sanitizer kit can spell the difference between a clean & comfortable bladder relief versus a germ prone and unpleasant one.
