Most homemakers I know are practical people who always base their purchases on the product’s value for money. This is not surprising because when you are tasked to take care of domestic concerns and to manage the household budget, you’re bound to look for ways to save without compromising quality.

This is the reason why the discovery of cookware that can be used for cooking, serving and storing food is such a blast for homemakers. Cookware made from glass and ceramic materials that can be used for cooking in stove or ovens are nothing new. In fact, they have been around since the 1950’s. But the modern ceramic stoneware is now designed for multiple uses.

One of my favorites is the Corningware French White Bakeware which can be used for cooking in the oven or microwave and served straight to the dinner table. Its’ simple yet elegant design allows it to fit in casual dinners and evening parties. If there is left over food, you can simply chuck the dish in the refrigerator or the freezer without worrying about food odor or flavor absorption and stains.

Now isn’t that what you call value for money, it saves you time and effort from transferring food from one container to another, and helps conserve water and soap by using less dishes.

It’s the moment you dread, waking up to be wished “happy anniversary” by your smiling significant other, only to realise that it is going to be anything but – because had totally forgotten.

Whether you have lived through this moment in the past, or simply live in dread of it – there is only one option to ensure that it doesn’t materialise when your next anniversary rolls around, and that is to ensure that you plan the perfect anniversary celebration. Below we have put together a checklist of the areas to cover if you want to make sure your special day goes smoothly.

Get in Early

You need to acknowledge an anniversary as soon as your partner wakes – even if the day is to en with a surprise party or outing, no one is ever amused by the “pretending to have forgotten” ruse – if you try this your partner will spend most of he day being angry at you and calling to mind all the times you may have let them down in the past, which can create a lingering feeling of anger even once all is revealed. Instead, you need to ensure that your partner is greeted with an awakening that befits the occasion. Consider breakfast in bed complete with fresh flowers to start the day out on the right note.

Anniversary Giving

Most couples will celebrate their anniversary by exchanging cards and gifts. Don’t just pick up the first thing you see in the shops, and don’t ever leave gift buying to the last minute. Listen to your partner in the run up to the big day and get an idea of what it is that they would really appreciate from you. Ask their friends and family if you are short of ideas, and steer clear of practical gifts – this is about making them feel special and appreciated, so opt for a little luxury.

If your partner is a traditionalist, you may wish to consider buying a gift that is in keeping with traditional anniversary presents, such as paper for a first anniversary, silver for a 25th and gold for a 50th.

In terms of anniversary cards, steer clear of novelty/funny cards and opt for something romantic. If you want to show how much you care, consider making or personalising a card yourself – but whatever option you plump for remember that it is the sentiment contained in the card that counts, so ensure you write a personal message rather than just signing your name.

Celebratory Treats

Anniversaries are about celebrating your life as a couple so there is no better time to create a new memory to share, while some people may like to celebrate anniversaries amongst families and friends, shared activities or getaways are a great way to use an anniversary as an opportunity to rekindle romance and enjoy each other’s company. Some celebrations to consider include:

A city break or holiday

An out of the ordinary experience such as racing car driving or bungee jumping

A magical mystery tour of places that are significant to your relationship

We all love to talk about happy memories from our childhood. Sharing childhood memories has therapeutic effects for both the storyteller and the listener. For the story teller, it rekindles the past and elicits the warm and happy feelings of yore. The listeners get a glimpse of the past and learn from the life experiences of another. Our memories may fail us at times but special moments in life can be immortalized through pictures or albums, diaries or journals and scrapbooks.

Scrap booking is a great way to preserve our memories. It is a combination of a photo album and a journal using various pictures, mementos and notes to tell your own story. It is a collection of images that reflects the creativity and personality of both the author and the subject.

Parents today are lucky because scrap booking tools are readily available in the market whether it’s for traditional scrap booking or digital scrap booking. This allows us to chronicle our children’s milestones in full detail. Not to mention making it more fun to make and share with others.

Eventually when we grow old and gray, we can lovingly reminisce with our grown up kids and experience wonderful moments again through our scrapbooks.

One of the limitations of online shopping is that you will not be able to test or to see the quality of the items you’re purchasing before you buy it. Especially for linen and clothing where the images do not reflect the texture and the “real feel” of the product. Good thing that there are tried and tested designer brands that we can trust to provide us with high quality clothing that will not disappoint us.

Most reliable on-line shopping sites carry designer brands for casual to formal and good buys to luxurious buys. Gray and Osbourn is one of my favorite online shopping sites. Aside from having their own classic and stylish design for your wardrobe essentials, they also carry great clothing brands that are known for their quality and comfort like Gardeur, trousers, jeans and skirts, Naturalizer shoes, Wacoal and Triumph lingeries, and over 80 designer brands for clothes, accessories, jewelries, footwear and lingerie. They also have a trends page that cuts down my selection time by providing clothing options that are categorized according to the trend that you would like to follow.

On-line shopping is one of the most efficient ways to shop when you are pressed for time. Knowing your brands can make your online shopping easier and worry free.

Choosing the Right Range Hood for Your Kitchen

Modern kitchen conveniences allow us to keep our kitchen efficient in both function and maintenance. One such convenience is the range hood. These are fixtures that you can put on the wall or ceiling above your stove to help ventilate your kitchen, reduce unwanted odors and trap grease that may be deposited in the kitchen walls.

Range hoods vary in size, style and function that match your cooking habits:

Vented hoods are ideally placed in areas that allow for ducting through outside vents like the inside of exterior walls or ceilings. It forces the air into a duct and expels it through an outside vent. It is recommended for people who often cook fried food or dishes that produce smoke and odors.

Re-circulating hoods are vent-less hoods that suck the air in through a filter and circulate it back into the kitchen. Since air is simply re-circulated in the kitchen, the heat and smoke remains in the kitchen even if the steam and odors have been reduced already. This will work well for low temperature cooking that emits minimal smoke.

Under-cabinet range hoods are installed at the bottom of cabinets above your stove. It uses a fan and filter to re-circulate hot air and steam, and to disperse particles in the air.

Wall mounted range hoods are vented hoods that feature a wide mouth for drawing-in smoke and odors and is also equipped with a fan and blower for expelling air outdoors. They usually have halogen lighting, stainless steel finishing, decorator and touch pad controls.

Island range hoods are typically stylish and decorative since they are placed in the ceiling above the stove that connects it directly to a duct. It hangs down over the workspace and is more efficient when the hood is slightly larger than the stove. It features halogen lighting with brightness settings, touch-pad controls, automatic shut-off system, and high powered fan and blowers.

Before purchasing your range hood, identify your specific needs to ensure that you are using the most appropriate hood. Though great design is pleasing, place more inportance in function for a truly beautiful kitchen.
